Upcoming Free Zoom Presentation Explores the Power of Family Councils in Long-Term Care

By July 30, 2026No Comments

Families often play an essential role in supporting loved ones living in long-term care. Yet many hesitate to raise concerns because they worry that speaking up could negatively affect the care their loved one receives.

To help address this important issue, Dementia Solutions is presenting a free educational Zoom session exploring how Family Councils provide a safe, respectful, and collaborative way for families, residents, and care teams to work together to improve quality of life in long-term care.

The presentation, Beyond Speaking Up: How Family Councils Turn Individual Voices into Collective Change, is a follow-up to the earlier discussion, Speaking Up or Staying Silent? The Reality of Family Advocacy in Long-Term Care.

Featured presenters include Karen Tyrell, Dementia Consultant and Educator with Dementia Solutions, and Lisa Dawson, President of the Independent Long-Term Care Councils Association of British Columbia (ILTCCABC).

Participants will learn why Family Councils are such an important part of person-centred long-term care, how they strengthen communication between families and care teams, and practical ways individual concerns can lead to meaningful, lasting improvements.
