About us

ILTCCABC is a registered society under the BC Societies Act. It is a provincial association of family councils representing the collective voice of residents, their families, and representatives. ILTCCABC is comprised of its member Regional Associations of Family Councils which operate in every health authority in BC. ILTCCABC is viewed by the Ministry of Health as an important partner (stakeholder in the long-term care sector). ILTCCABC contributes to the development and maintenance of independent resident and family councils in LTC.

ILTCCABC Mission

To promote Independent Councils in long-term care homes across BC to support our member Regional Associations of Family Councils and to advance the collective voice directly to the Ministry of Health ensuring residents, their families and representatives have a voice in decisions that affect their lives and help shape BC’s Long-Term Care System.

ILTCCABC Vision

Quality of Life Person-Centered Care be the lens through which all service delivery decisions are made in long term care homes in BC.

Our beliefs:

  • We Believe that residents in long-term care are one of the most vulnerable groups in our society.
  • We believe that residents in care are treasured, important members of our community and deserve to live with dignity and to have the best possible care that our long-term care facilities can provide.
  • We believe that quality of life and person-centered care should be the lens through which all service delivery decisions are made in long-term care.
  • We believe that family members, and other persons of importance to residents in long-term care are valuable resources for long-term care service providers.
  • We believe that independent Family Councils are essential contributors to collective efforts aimed at improving the quality of life and quality of care that residents deserve.  Independent Family Councils ought to be respected and supported by all stakeholders.
  • We believe that alongside BC Health Authorities, BC Care Providers Association, and Health Care Unions, a Provincial Association of Family Councils should be included as an essential resource for the Ministry of Health to consult when planning, making, reviewing or revising policies and regulations that impact residents in long-term care.
  • We believe that a Provincial Association of Family Councils provides valuable support and guidance to Regional and Independent Family Councils across BC, while at the same time bringing together the collective perspectives of all of these groups, and thus helping to ensure best possible care and quality of life for residents.
