During the 2024 year, ILTCCABC and its five member Regional Associations continued working to:
● Promote resident and family councils in long-term care homes
● Support the start-up and maintenance of councils and
● Elevate conversations of care and quality of life to our Ministry of Health
Our volunteers worked with long-term care home residents and families, care home operators, the Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health and the Office of the Seniors Advocate to provide mentorship to help implement our new regulations which support engagement with councils in long-term care.
Other organizations, such as the BC Care Providers Association, have also been an enormous help in our number one focus of assisting in the establishment of councils. This resulted in 94 established councils around the province and 90 in progress as of November 15, 2024.
Additionally, our advocacy work has grown, with various partnerships and collaborations becoming more important to us, such as the UBC research study on the benefits of resident and family councils, other potential academic research and our work with the Alzheimer’s’ Society of BC, the Jewish Seniors Association of BC and ARRC (Action for Reform of Residential Care Association).
We look forward to 2025, another busy year, with new connections in the Ministry of Health, long-term care homeowners and operators, their residents and families. We cannot wait to meet each and every one of you who are involved in this journey.
ILTCCABC, your Provincial Association of Family Councils, is an important and proud stakeholder in the long-term care sector in BC helping to elevate the collective voice of residents and families directly to the Ministry of Health.
We are honored to work alongside other advocacy organizations who share our goal of making long-term care in BC the best it can be.
From all of us to all of you
Wishing you all the best in 2025!
