November 3, 2025, marks the 3rd Anniversary of a Remarkable Milestone for Long-Term Care

By November 3, 2025No Comments

Nov. 3, 2025, marks 3 years since our long-term care new regulations were announced to reflect support for resident and/or family councils in all long-term homes across BC! We have gone from a handful of family councils throughout BC in 2021 to 40 after a year that we had developed and/or supported, and now, to over 100 self-directed family councils. Our regional associations are connecting and working with all long-term care homes to ensure regulations are implemented, but more importantly, that residents and families are engaged in the decision-making that affects them in long-term care homes across BC.

It was a remarkable milestone!

The Independent Long-Term Care Councils Association of BC (ILTCCABC) wants to thank the dedicated volunteers who advocated for this voice and, without whom, we would not exist!

We want to thank those in our health authorities and at the Ministry of Health who got behind this engagement initiative, viewing relationships as the catalyst for effective conversations and change. We are grateful to all long-term care providers, their management teams and their staff for embracing a more relational approach by engaging with residents and families in this way.

As members of the BC Care Providers Association, we thank them for their support to encourage their long-term care home operators to recognize the value of a relational approach to care.

Our strategic directions guides us to continue this important work:
