ILTCCABC Submission Recognized in BC Budget 2026 Consultation Report

The Independent Long-Term Care Councils Association of BC (ILTCCABC) is proud to announce that its advocacy was formally recognized in the Legislative Assembly’s Budget 2026 Consultation. Report. The report, released on August 12, 2025, highlights the voices of British Columbians who shaped the Committee’s recommendations for the upcoming provincial budget. During the consultation period, the Committee received 350 presentations and 406 written submissions.

ILTCCABC’s written submission was picked up in the report. This acknowledgment supports ILTCCABC’s long-term care work and advocacy, and support for the broader network of organizations committed to long-term care reform.

Long-Term Care a Central Theme

The phrase long-term care appeared 17 times in the report, reinforcing its central role in the province’s health and social policy planning. Submissions from across BC highlighted urgent needs around seniors’ care, staff retention, and infrastructure investment. Among them, ILTCCABC’s recommendations stood out:

A Chorus of Aligned Voices

ILTCCABC’s submission was published alongside other key stakeholder calls for action:

  • The BC Care Providers Association emphasized improved funding for assisted living and long-term care.
  • The Hospital Employees’ Union urged common standards to improve staffing stability and continuity of care.
  • CareRx Pharmacy, Save Our Northern Seniors, QMUNITY, and others put forward targeted funding requests, reflecting the broad concern for strengthening seniors’ care across the province.

Recommendations with Impact

The Committee ultimately made 86 recommendations, including direct references to increasing long-term care beds, expanding home and community care, and ensuring better coordination of patient transitions. These align closely with ILTCCABC’s long-standing priorities of improving care quality, acknowledging and elevating resident and family caregiver voices.

A Validated Platform

This recognition in the official budget consultation process confirms the Association’s growing role in contributing to provincial policy. It reflects the strength of collective advocacy and, most importantly, has a positive impact on the quality of life of residents. ILTCCABC supports a long-term care system that evolves toward a more resident-centred, responsive, and accountable system.
